African Moony

Mono group

Monodactylus sebae

The African moony is a very impressive silver colored fish with a characteristic triangular body shape. It has a very strong and attractive schooling behavior, which is not popular in marine aquariums.

Traditionally the Mono is considered a brackish water fish, hardy and resistant to imperfect water conditions. In nature the adults live in full seawater, while the juveniles migrate to fresh/brackish water in their early stages of life. The ability of this fish to withstand dramatic changes in salinity is remarkable. Captive Bred has been working with the Mono for many years, keeping them in all types of salinities. Our experience shows that they prosper for years both in full fresh water and in full-strength seawater.
